Child Benefit Counter claim
#1
I have had my child benefit payments stopped because for the 2nd time in my ex has made a counter claim for it. She made a claim in May this year which was rejected in July. There is a court order in place where I have kresidency and I am the primary carer and she has residential contact. But when i contacted HMRC they said they have to look into every claim and stop payments which can take 3 months to be investigated and once done she can make more claims with impunity. This also has a knock on effect with child maintenence as she has not paid a penny since february and she had appealed on 2 occasions to not pay it which have both been rejected and she has been told she must pay the backdated payments. But since the child benefit has been stopped this payout of child maintenence will be suspended too until it has been resolved.

How on earth can this be allowed that someone can make numerous claims when circumstances have not changed and payments stopped without notice

I can only imagine they are doing things as ridculous as this as you are male. If roles were reversed i bet they wouldnt suspend payments

Time to contact your MP, who will have a caseworker who will take this up for you.
Posts made by me are my opinion and any factual information should be checked out. If you do not have a Solicitor, often your local CAB can get you some initial advice.
