It can be cheaper and less acrimonious, enabling parents to have an ongoing relationship with their children and each other.

Collaborative law also aims to avoid costly court battles. In the process the couple, each represented by specially trained lawyers, agree in writing to reach a settlement out of court in a series of four-way, face-to- face meetings. By sitting down together, couples stay in control of their own futures, instead of leaving decisions to be imposed by a judge in a courtroom.
