Why keep a contact diary? Family courts expect evidence, not just your word against theirs. A dated, factual diary showing a pattern of denied contact, late handovers or broken arrangements carries real weight with judges and CAFCASS officers. Solicitors recommend keeping one from the moment issues begin. Be factual, avoid emotional language, and record every incident, even small ones.
Tips for good entries: Record dates and times precisely. Note who was present as a witness. Describe what happened factually without opinion. Include what was agreed versus what actually happened. Mention any messages sent or received. If contact was positive, record that too as it shows you are balanced and fair.
Privacy: All diary entries are stored entirely on your device using your browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone. Only you can access your data. We recommend exporting regularly as a backup.
